Exercise Physiology - A year in Review.
What a year!
In 2019 exercise physiology at Annette Kellerman Aquatic Centre continued to grow; with the addition of many satisfied clients, a new team member, education opportunities and continued support of community health programs.
With the official rollout of Belgravia Leisure’s wellness initiative across the State, it was time for our team to grow – with the addition of new exercise physiologist Jacob to our experienced team members Sarah and Alex. Our client base continues to grow alongside the program. As AKAC members and the wider community continue to spread the word about the service and knowledge offered by our team we are sure that this will be the case .
The year also saw an education opportunity for our EPs, who undertook specialised training in the treatment and management of cancer with exercise from world-leading researcher Prue Cormie. This was a fantastic opportunity, and demonstrates our commitment to improving our skills and developing our knowledge based on the latest evidence-based practice.
Alongside our supervised and home exercise offerings, 2019 saw our EPs help out with several community health initiatives at AKAC. Alex and Sarah assisted people on a journey to a healthier and more active life through Diabetes NSW’s 8 week activity and lifestyle program Beat It. Meanwhile, Jacob had the opportunity to work with SLHD Mental Health Service’s “Swim & Gym” program to use exercise to foster independence, confidence and community.
Here at AKAC, we’re looking forward to an even bigger 2020. Keep an eye out for the introduction of exercise physiologist-led exercise classes specifically targeting chronic disease!
